She got my vote for Mother of the Year!

Just about the time when you begin to think, “All is lost”, a HERO emerges. Toya Graham hits the spotlight in the eye of chaos, to demonstrate her love and concern as a mother. Her parental instincts kicked into overdrive as she confronted and held her 16 yr old son accountable for his actions. Her affection and devotion to her only son, defied the contemporary voice that says, “You can’t embarrass, or physically discipline your child”, by chasing him down for at least 60 seconds and going upside his head. My question is, where were the rest of the parents at? Toya’s label as a “Hero” is evidenced based because out of all the kids that were throwing bricks, rioting and looting, Toya knew her child was in danger. She witnessed her son walking in agreement with criminals and when you commit a crime these days, you never can tell how it will play itself out. What would have happened if the police would have opened fire on those students? I can hear the parents whose children were gunned down saying, “My baby, they killed my baby”.  Toya’s actions sent a message that read, “I would rather have my son taken from me and put in Child Protective Service, due to me beating the hell out of him for looting, than to shed crocodile tears at his funeral because the police issued their twisted form of justice on him!”

To the 16yr old son of Toya Graham, I want you to know that your mama loves the hell out of you! The embarrassment you might feel because she displayed her love for you publicly; will serve you in ways you never would think are possible. Because if the truth be told, I know some parents who can’t correct their child at home; so in public, you know it’s a wrap. Today we celebrate Toya Graham as a Hero for confronting and holding her 16 yr old son accountable for his actions because it’s a rare quality. At the rate we’re going, by 2020, a mother might be a Hero for feeding her child. Something to think about; Parents we gotta do better because if we don’t love them, the police might kill them.
