Who says that, "Money don't grow on trees?"

So bud will be legal in Canada by this June? But you know California isn't going to allow no one to out do them, so they're looking at the first of the year to start selling bud. Selling marijuana used to be illegal but hey, if you can't beat them, join them. Especially when we are talking about these numbers; the means justify the end. In Canada, by the year 2021, the annual sales for recreational marijuana could range between $2.3 billion and $4.5 billion. But once again, California will not be undone;  recreational sales for cannabis are expected to total $3.5 billion to $5.1 billion by 2021.

But trip on this; those numbers don't include the sales from medical marijuana. Well if selling marijuana for recreational use is legal, why not make all illicit substances legal? Can you imagine the dent that would be put in the deficit? Not to mention, the drop in the crime rate. The way I see it, is you can kill more than 2 birds with one stone; we will be able to downsize the national debt, while increasing our natural resources because of the death rate sky-rocketing, due to overdoses. As long as we are willing to live with individuals being behind a vehicle, not only under the influence of alcohol but also feeling the effects of a blunt or two. If you have no affiliation, you can still wish me “Happy Holidays!”

I promise not to be offended!

I will be thankful that you cared enough to wish me well!

House of Cards

It would be expected for me to take a swipe at Kevin Spacey; the actor from the hit series House of Cards, but that would be a tremendous waste of time. I can remember being about 9 yrs old and building a house out of playing cards with my brother. It took some serious hand and eye coordination just to get the cards to stay in place; not to mention the fights that occurred between my brother and I. It never ceased to amaze me how people would always come sit at the table, knowing full well that we were building our house and could not afford the slightest movement. It never really mattered how careful we were to protect the house of cards, the same outcome would arise; cards all over the floor and our little cardboard mansion utterly destroyed!

Three decades later and I find myself still building houses; although the material to build has changed, I’m still building. You see, you and I wake up every morning with lofty aims of finding security in a relationship, a career, financial status, social acceptance and recognition. Build as we may, the objects that we attempt to erect are never strong enough to retain our needs and human expectations. The wealthy would exchange money for health. The healthy would exchange a kidney for wealth. The single will lie to obtain a spouse, while the married will lie to have an affair with a single person.

We could learn a lot from a tax collector who had a history of taking from others; he stated, “Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust- worst!- stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.” (Matthew 6:19-21)

Chicago's Finest "To Serve and Protect"

Image result for black parents
Now that the media has squeezed all the juice out of the horrific genocide that’s happening in Chicago, Illinois; let’s move past the numbers and statistics, to the only solution worth discussing. Since the elections are over there is no need for politicians to exert any amount of energy for a vote.  We can’t expect politicians to verbally soothe our itching ears with what’s taking place in Chi-Raq (Chicago), by making empty promises or just flat-out lying to the people.

The answer that will come down the pipe from the government to combat this spike in violence and increase in murders will be to throw more police officers on the street; and if needed, turn the city of Chicago into a town of martial law.

While I agree with portions of the government’s answer to put more officers on the streets, “To Serve and Protect”, I strongly disagree with who’s primarily responsible to “Serve and Protect”.  As an African American, it’s shameful and disheartening when our communities become environments that generate more children with P.T.S.D. than high school graduates.
The family unit is the first form of government that a child is introduced to. The family unit is where we learn about authority in a loving environment BUT if this unit is disabled, it often times leads to a distorted perception of personal responsibility and respect for self and authority.

Chicago’s Finest isn’t the police officers or the National Guard, but the finest officers are and will be the parents. Selah
