A small town in Utah had no access to a physician; the
closest Dr’s office was located 80 miles from the town. Two brothers, who were
graduating high school, decided that they would study to become physicians. To
their surprise, an older farmer in the town decided that he would meet with the
two brothers. The older farmer told the two boys that he would pay their tuition
and provide a living expense throughout the course of their education to become
doctors, if in return, the two brothers would practice medicine in the small
town. The two boys agreed that after they became doctors, they would return to
the small town and provide services for the locals. Since it was a small town
and news tends to travel fast; other residents decided to join in on the cause
by giving their support. A certain lawyer went to visit the old farmer and
stated that he would like to get involved. The lawyer asked the old farmer if
he had a written contract with the two lads and the old farmer stated, “No”.
The lawyer cheerfully said that he would draw up the papers for the contract
for no additional cost to the old farmer; in an act of good service. The old
farmer took off his glasses and looked the lawyer in the face and said, “Son, I’ve
been around long enough to know that if a man’s word isn’t good then those
papers that you’re wanted to draw up, wont be any good either.
Let your Yes be yes and your No be No.
Truth can stand the eye of scrutiny, without taking damage;
while a Lie will need crutches after it is snatched off of it’s
foundation. Selah
