I was once asked to explain God’s love, during an interview.
I quickly remembered a story I heard about a couple who had grew up together.
It appeared that they were madly in love and happy but there was an issue. The
young lady had been born blind and never could see her boyfriend. While making
small talk, the young man asked her, if she could one day see, would she marry
him? She quickly replied with a astounding, “Yes”. As some years passed, the
couple caught wind of a doctor in Switzerland who had successfully performed an
eye transplant. The couple contacted the facility and arranged for the young
lady to be put on the waiting list.
To the couple’s surprise, the facility scheduled the young
lady to undergo the eye transplant. They flew to Switzerland, met the doctor
and prepared her for the surgery. After the surgery was complete, the young
lady had to wear bandages over her eyes for a couple of weeks. The young man
was right beside her, every step of the way; and never left her hospital room.
After two weeks, the bandages were removed and the young
lady could see! The young woman was excited to be able to see for the first
time in her life. The young man was excited also because he remembered what she
told him prior to the surgery. So the young man reminded the young lady about marrying
him if she could one day see. To his surprise the young lady looked at him and said,
“I’m sorry, I don’t want to marry you”. The
young man was stricken with grief as he turned and walked out of the hospital
room. Right before he got to the door, the young man turned around to face the
young woman and said, “Take care of my eyes”.
